1982 300 SD odometer not working...Speedo good
Can anybody point me to a thread related to repairing an 82 300 SD odometer? I repaired my 300D odometer but from what I remember the 300 SD's have some type or gear that always goes bad. If anybody has a part # on this it would help as well. Thanks...

I went to odometergears.com and ordered a set for mine. Easy fix. Of course I went to Jeff's house, and we did it there, but still. Not difficult. Got a couple of pics here. http://s199.photobucket.com/albums/aa26/t_goat69/Mercedes%20Repair/W126%20Odo%20Gears/

Thanks for the website and the photos. $65 sounds a little steep. Can I get away with replacing one? Which one is usually the faulty one?

The one that generally breaks is the small one that drives the numbers.(It's lables E1 in the odometergears site.) But I would just replace them all. If you don't there is a good chance the new gears probably break the old ones. The plastic gets brittle as it gets old and the teeth break off. And an odometer shop is going to charge atleast $100 for the job. It's a simple swap. I think you just have to take off a little cover and then the gears slide off the shaft, and you slip on the new ones.
I redid an SD odometer a few months back with gears from the same link above. It has worked great since. Here are the MB section of OdometerGears.com - http://www.odometergears.com/mercedes.html

I would get all three. The newer ones will strip the old gears, and then you're stuck in the same spot. I like to minimize the times I pull the cluster.
