I picked up another 300TD parts car?

Here I go again, remember me saying no more rust, now its well its not that bad...

So I haven't finished parting out my 1985 yet, but I picked up a 1984 300TD today. It looks like a bomb but I think its got potential to not be a bomb. It came to MA in 2001 from Florida. It looks like someone tried to use the jack or use the lift in a soft spot in the rear. Don't get me wrong there are some really weak areas with rust but then its really solid in others. The car definately needs its share of work. The nice part is behind the doors (lower seal) aren't really too bad. Guy paid $170 for a rear tail light lense and his son broke it. It has the cross bows for the roof rack which I'll keep, thank you very much. One front fender is new, the other is real nice. Its really just the rear of the car. Rear hatch is good. SLS has lost all fluid and the control valve is wet. Ride weird with this and a CV joint is doing weird things so the back end can get really odd feeling and noisy. Feels and sounds like a wheel is coming off. 193k. Poor guy paid $5000 last year for the car and it wouldn't pass inspection. Radiator is relatively new, car doesn't leak much fluid. I know this is going to sound odd, but I might just mig some sheet metal right over the jackhole points and just carry a hydraulic jack. It would be nice to do as little as possible to get it to pass inspection, maybe even some fiberglass work and then just convert it for veggy!
More time to think about this as I've got a lot going on and its at my parents house for now. Pages of pictures here: http://asnowsquall.smugmug.com/gallery/4647637_pEzpN#274428750

By Michigan standards that looks like a GOOD car still! Repair it and send it back onto the road! Its young at 193k. We have a nice SDL in the yard here that met its doom at 196k....way too early.

Wagons are too rare and valuable to readily scrap....we need as many around as possible!

Jimmy?
Do you need something? What color are you looking for? I know where there is at least one, maybe two. I'm going to be there this weekend doing something else. You want me to snap some pics?

I know, I feel bad about parting out the 85 I have. Its tricky figuring out at what point its toast. This white car has relaitvely clean doors. The parts car doors were bad, the hood was terrible and had flown open so it did damage to the body. I think this white car will stay on the road I'll just MIG in some metal. The car is young and doesn't leak much of anything so it should be worth it.

Yes, I was excited to see those. The owner sent me crappy pictures but I thought I saw them. His pictures said that the stock aluminum rims weren't included. So the steel rims were on when I got there and the cross bars were still on. I have hub caps for the steel rims and they are in really good condition. I think I'm destined to be the wagon guy in the North East. Have to talk to the wife about that as I am on a 1/3 acre.

I am looking for the 60/40 rear wagon seat bottoms in blue MB Tex. I actually have leather but am slowly replacing it with MB Tex. Just lasts so much longer.
Shipping from your location would probably be way too much $$$$ though.....

Started to try and sell this. Wasn't going anywhere really so I pulled axles of my parts wagon, grabbed some compression fitting and steel line and repaired the leaky SLS, and half shafts. The rear diff has issues so the car will get my 2.88 rear diff. But it made it home to VT which is about 180 miles. The car has some ugly spots, but for the most part its very solid. The engine and tranny are very good. May end up getting it all set up to be my winter bomb. Spray the underside with bar and chain oil. Hey maybe I'll finally install my Webasto coolant heater which I even have the timer for.... I'd liek to come up with some type of intake air heater like the Cummins uses. I work 12 hour days and its important that the car starts when I get out of work. May have to set it up with dual truck batteries. Anyways I'm leaning towards having 2 wagons, one nice and one solid but the work rig, aka winter bomb. Thats todays idea, tomorrow I'll be selling it......
