85 300d Chicago Civil Suit re:"Tint"
 

I just got a ticket in the mail for my '85 300D from City of Chicago.
Says "Smoked/Tinted Windows" = $25

Windows are lightly factory tinted, from 1985.
They are not heavily tinted.... just the stock tint.
No where near legal limits, as far as I know...


Does anyone know the exact amount of stock tint on a factory 1985 300D?

I have to compile some information to argue with, or,

I could of course fix the problem by bashing out all my windows.

Wow, I'd go fight that immediatlely. Is Chicago facing budget issues or something? Sounds like they're trying to scrounge up revenue.

You probably had a patrolman that was placed on parking duty as punishment......and was looking at your car with his shades on.:cool:

I have got plenty of stupid tickets in chicago.... taillights not red enough, "tints" on my windows (same problem), expired plate tags (even though I had up to date stickers on them)... seems like the parking enforcement officers are the most laziest, disgruntled people in the world. My advice is to contest it, keep a record of everything.. and even if you end up paying or winning the case, save all your papers... I got a notice that I didnt pay a ticket several months after I won the case.. I had to show proof that it was resolved and I didnt have to pay the ticket..... CHICAGO Enforcement is the most crooked I have ever witnessed...

The legal limit on tinting is a 30% reduction of light through the windows, but some states allow 35%. I'm glad I don't live in Chicago! Now you know what life will be like in the US if people are dumb enough to elect Barrack Obama since this is Obamaland!:rolleyes:

I'm not aware of factory tinted side windows on a 300D. Could have a tint shop hit it with a VLT meter to see.

Mine are factory tinted, but it is not very noticeable.

how do you figure its factory? I've never seen a vin option that mentions tinted windows. What dealership was your car purchased from?

My car was purchased from Von Hausen Mercedes Benz of Sacramento CA. My model catalog that lists all the models of Mercedes Benz for 1983 also says that a little tint was added to the glass as an option at the factory, but it is very slight in my car. It does help to keep the heat out!:D

hrmm well it probably complied with CA tint laws, which im sure are much more lenient than ILs. But yeah, like someone said, go to a tint shop and get the exact tint % and fight it

When at the U of I @ Champaign/Urbana a number of years ago, we didn't call that portion of the state Crook County for nothing.
