Anyone ever use a converstion kit from Greenbenz.com?
I am thinking of purchasing a 85 300D with 127,000 that I had asked for some feedback on. Has anyone ever used a conversion kit from http://www.greenbenz.com/ . I plan on converting this car very soon after i purchase it.

Green-benz is a scam, the exact same single tank scam as Lovecrap.
Avoid them at all costs and go get a good two tank system. |

It's here in Glendale, CA and it seems like a guy in a garage and like you all said read carefully and it leaves the same single tank questions unanswered! I flag every car on CL that resembles them.
Beware veggiewheels.com too they're copycatting and haven't backed up their systems. They're selling horrendously overpriced cars all over CL as individual sellers! |

ok, then ...
... so, whats a good 2-tank system? Greasecar?

alright ...
... i sort of answered my own question. My limited research indicates that Frybrid, Greasecar and Plantdrive are all top notch. Frybrid is by far the most expensive, but seems the most heavy duty.
I have spoken to the GreenBenz guy. He seemed cool/knowledgeable. Can anyone explain briefly why a 2-tank system is better for the car/efficiency/overall. Why is LoveCraft weak? Is it cheap and poor quality? BTW - I'm knew here and am about to delve into the world of vintage diesel. You guys rule. |

Frybrid seems to not be sending out parts after they are ordered now so I would stay away from them too.
Quick explanation: 2 tank systems heat the oil better, and do not force the car to start on cold oil which causes coking of the rings, loss of compression and engine death. Check out the WVO/SVO links page for more info that you care to read.

Best solution for burning WVO is to heat it, and only switch over once the engine is warm. Hence two tanks, one for startup fuel, one for hot vegetable oil.

that pretty much sums it up.
ive got a frybrid system, and yes, they did make me wait 2 months after payment to get it. but its worth the wait. after 5500 miles on veg, my 87 300d turbo has never been happier.

Good point... It is a point that all of these crap-Conversion companies bank on... I personally put 8000 miles on on a lovecraft single tank system without a single problem.... that dosent mean the car "loved it"

Fribrid is probably the best engineered kit out there. Most others have "problems". My own conversion is probably closer to the frybrid design than any other and I have many hundreds of thousands of miles on WVO (and animal fat shortening )
Just as important as the conversion is the de-watering and filtering of oil.
