85 300d Fuel Guage malfunction
The reserve light flashes on and off and when the light is on, the needle jumps a bit.
Any hint on where to start looking? Thanks Cliff

Fuel level sender. Access is under the first aid box.
Hint, you will find a large nut that frees the sender. Second hint. Be (Elmer Fudd)vewy, vewy, careful, when disassembling the sender to clean it, it is fragile. Jim

First try cleaning the fuel level sending unit. To access the sender remove the first aid box. It will be right underneath. I believe it's a 46mm socket that you need to remove the sender. A large pair of channel locks will work too. When you have the unit out there is a little nut on the bottom. Remove the nut and the tube will come off. Be carefull when removing the tube there are three tiny wires inside that you don't want to damage. Once the tube is off, clean the whole thing with some break cleaner, and when it's dry put it all back together and reinstall and see what happens. In my experience once they start acting funny they are toast. But cleaning it is cheap and easy so give it a shot.
