W123-W124 how hard will it be to adjust?
I've got my 79 240D 4 speed.
its been a great car... i love it... but I'm to the point where I can no longer continue repairs without totally losing my ass on it. Purchase Price 2,000 plus OH tax, ect. exaust work 40.00 911 belt work 210.00 Brakes (pads, rotors) 255.00 floor pans 1,000 Exaust (full) 400.00 Slave Cylinder 250.00 it seems as if body work is the only major thing left to do... it has some rust. none of it is "dangerous" i've had a majority of things patched PROPERLY. paint is needed. what do you guys think my car would go for on a realistic market? I'd like to get a bottom dollar of 3K and if everything checks out tomorrow i'm graduating to a 1992 300D 2.5T Black on spotless Black leather origional owner newer paint an honest carfax that shows an accident @ 6K miles 11 months in to the cars life... 265,000 untampered miles glows and drives great small/moderate oil leak. not sure where from... (thing checked out tomrrow) a few little dents/dings/dimples, no paint chip/crack or clearcoat peel all work done @ local MB dealership & records to prove. what would/should this car go for realistically? and could the oil leak be something known in these cars? how much adjusting does it require to go from a 123 to a 124? I'm just used to not being able to get out of my own way and have come to laugh about it in a fun fashion.

You left out suspension work on the 240D.
Looking at your sig line, it looks like you know modern MB Diesels as well as anyone. The 2.5 won't feel a lot more modern than the 240D compared to the rest of your fleet. 3 common sources of engine oil leaks are front cover of vacuum pump (if it doesn't have exposed screw heads), front crank seal, head gasket by #1 exhaust runner. UCA's were replaced on the 240... as far as im concerned thats all thats been done in a while...
i've only had the car since august. thanks for the pointers on the oil areas. it appears to be leaking somewhere in the lower front passenger side. but i cant see its point of exit exactly. its more of a visable thing where it runs along horizontally mounted objects

i love my 2.5T and as far as im concerned its lightyears ahead of the 240D as far as technology is concerned. Its WAY faster. If youre complaining about repair costs though, the 2.5T is alot more expensive to repair than the 240, and its also not quite as reliable. 265k miles is alot on that '92, unless there already been alot of work done on it.

were talking about the 617 turbo right?this engine is basically the same as a 4 cylinder, with one added on and a turbo. same quality and everything. if you look at the journals, they didnt space them out evenly there is one crank journal at the very end thats the one they added on for the fifth cylinder.

The w124 is one bad mother scratcher. I have both and use the W124 daily. just get in it and go. You won't be dissapointed. I'm keeping the w123as a back up/pleasure car.

ok...
I'm thinking the same things here. 124 is a little more complex, more things to go wrong, but still a tank 123... a highway rated tractor... it'll always roll as long as the rust doesn't get it first... I'd like to keep the 123... its a very unmolested car. very little bondo anywhere a few little dumb things here and there and body work... the 124 is now scheduled for an inspection on friday and that will tell me all... I'll keep updated... if not... this car may be one someone who can wrench everything themselves may want to pick up the asking on the 300D was 3350 before inspection negotiation is 2K so... yea. Thanks for the input! Matt

Cast iron block, aluminum cross-flow head, probably what you meant? The engine and car are so much different to drive and hear, if the sound panels are all in place it is barely louder than a gasoline engine.
