190D 2.5L question

What is your average operating temp? Mine is missing it's fan shroud and I'm wondering how much if a difference in temp. it makes. I average about 85C (per gauge) pretty much regardless of ambient temp. Although being in the SF bay area I don't really encounter extreme temps. Thanx for any input.

85C... is ok(well ok on the 617)

but I'd get a shroud to improve cooling efficiency

They don't put fan shrouds in there to protect your hands from the fan... they need it for pulling air through the radiator.... go and get one and sleep better for having done it.

Yes, it needs to have one to pull air through the radiator. Without it the fan is just slinging air around the engine bay.

op temp. 190D 2.5

op. temp in my 190D 2.5 is a touch over eighty. The original fan shroud was one piece. Recently I had to buy a new one and was pleased to notice that it came in 2 pieces and therefore it was not necessary to remove the rad for the installation. Also changing the serp. belt will be much easier with such a unit.

I recently replaced the t-stat on my 300D 2.5 turbo. It now runs just above 80 also. The original t-stat was stuck open.

That is good to know, I was kind of dreading having to pull the radiator just to install a shroud.

I am planning on installing one, but just wanted to know how critical it was. This car is not a daily driver, and I have a couple of other things I want to do with it. I'm just trying to prioritize things.

If you get stuck behind an accident and have to go miles inching forward ... it would be very important FAST.... like ForcedInduction said.. well, almost said, air is like water, it follows the path of least resistance....and I promise that is not through the radiator unless the airflow is directed that way by the shroud...

Point taken, Thanx!

Edit: So I installed the new shroud. It is indeed in two pieces and install was very easy. I have not noticed much of a change in op temp. But it definatly "creeps up" less when idling.
