I got alot of useful information on here just wanted to ask you guys for your opinions on my newly purchased 1992 300sd. It has 320k on the clock and I have no clue about its history. It needs some work, but I got it for a very cheap price, only $1200. The interior and the body are in mint shape, but the engine has a few problems.

When I bought it from the previous owner, it was leaking from around the injectors and shooting diesel all over the engine, but it runs and drives. I had one of my family members that works on Mercedes looked at it for me and changed the collars. I guess that they hold injectors in and stop the leaking. It starts up and runs good now only thing it makes a tapping noise at while idling, but when you put your foot on the pedal it sounds very good, revving up high and smooth.

When I fixed that problem and drove the car, it had no power. I changed both gas filters and got alot more power back, they were really dirty, but it still lacks power. What do you guys think it is? I don't know if I should put more money into the car or sell it. I would like to here your guys opinions on what i should do. Could it be bent rods?

My attempt to make this readible. Why do we get some many first timers that can't form a sentence?

Al, if you break your posts up in paragraphs and sentences like I just did, your posts will be much easier to read.

If the car smokes and consumes alot of oil, it sounds like a rod bender case to me. Don't assume, though, as many of these engines function normally with many miles. I'm not a mechanic, but I follow this forum and stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Somebody with more mechanical expertise can give you more information.

Proper capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse

Also, W140 cars are usually money pits, especially the diesels.

Well i'll put it simply, a cheap benz is an expensive benz, and i know we can all agree on that. These cars arn't just hope in and go kind of cars. Proper maint. and servicing is a well known fact (hence the forum DIY) so its up to how much you really enjoy the car. Put money into it, or sell it
