Quick AC question...

On my 'new' SDL I have a blue cap and a black cap on the AC lines. From the colors, can anyone tell me what refrigerant is in the system?

I know the valves are different depending on the gas.

Thanks!

Joe

Usually if there is any color other than black it is 134a. Remove the caps, if there are threads on the outside it is R12, no threads but a large groove it is R134a. HTH.

Thanks!

The system is not working and I wanted to know what gas it used before diving into it

Lets hope they stuck with R134a or R12...
otherwise that list will show what the PROPER FITTINGS LOOK LIKE... OR AT LEAST MEASURE...
but if they went with something really nonstandard then you can not really trust that they also put the correct fittings on it...

Thanks for the input.

From the EPA list, it LOOKS like the system was converted to R134a. I will look at the fittings closely tonight. The reason I am even looking at the gas is that there is a really smudged sticker saying something about adding dye to the system, but I could not make out the refrigerant type.

I have not yet looked at the electrical connections to make sure that the compressor clutch is getting powered. That is a weekend job. If it does need gas, I am taking it to a shop. I just did not want to go in completely ignorant and have a guy scam me into doing a R134a refit if it was still using R12.

That would be "Power is Knowledge" -- Not!

Constant exercising of the Knowledge that you do not have power in a 240d is very important.
