85 300d glow plug relay

Before I buy a relay I have a quick question. I put in new plugs and all are good. When I start the car, the glow plug light stays on. I checked the plugs and found a constant 12v flow. I unplugged the relay to drive but does this relate to needing a new relay or another problem?

That problem has to be internal to the relay/timer. If you remove power from the relay, can you hear the relay click open?

Next time I unplug it I will listen. When I do unplug it the engine is running so I did not notice.
Thanks,

What, exactly, are you unplugging? Unplugging the glow plug harness will not affect power to the relay.
