Thanks for the tip. They are available for Mercedes and seem to have a large distrributor network, this is definitely on my list for the next oil change.

i've already taken care of one oil pan on a speed bump, as a matter of fact. Last thing I need at this point is anything to be any lower.

I had one on a Truck I had a good while back. Was slick. But that truck had so much else that would hit first it would be very bad news if it ever got the oil pan. And the least of my troubles then.
It did drain a bit slower though. Smaller hole. But not a big problem. Worked well. Since I have gone to top draining it was a moot point now. |

I can't find it now, but I saw a similar valve that was used in place of the coolant drain plug on the block.

There was a knock off mostly plastic sold back then. Not as good nor as slick as the Fumoto. Sold under one of the aftermarket parts companies like Fram or something. Not as wide a fitment selection either.
You know a Coolant one would serve me good right now. Let me know if you find it. |

I bought one and put it on a 68 Landcruiser I used to own. I decided it was actually not a good idea. I thought there was a chance of inadvertently draining the oil so I removed it.

We could install a low oil pressure warning buzzer to offset the potential danger in accidental drainage. Kind of a vicious cycle, no?

If you change your oil by removing the oil plug vs. using a top-sider to "flush" out most of the contaminants, you will be disappointed with the Fumoto. It slows down the flow of oil considerably. Then of course there’s the never ending possibility of an accidental valve opening that just might ruin your Sunday drive...
I removed mine from my Duramax truck for the above reasons. |

I was going to get one but decided to save my $$. I doubt there's a risk of accidental drainage, it has a spring loaded handle with a locking slot...no way it could open on its own. My concern was the lost ground clearance. Also, its not that hard to put the wrench on the o'l bolt and loosen it! I wanted it soley because I could have directly drained through a little tube into jugs....skipping the messy drain tub.....
I have brand new pan and plug anyways, so they work fine. I'm sure I will survive the 4-5x a year that I have to open it for a change. I'll spend the money I save on better filters. Winmutt...with the vehicle already lowered like that are you sure its a good idea to have that drain valve hanging off the pan? It will hit everything for sure.....
