How much oil do I need?

How much oil I don't have a manual and I'm getting ready to do an oil change. How much oil do I need to put back in. I'm going with 15w40 and I have an 85 300d. Thanks!

When I last did mine, I am pretty sure it was 7.5L of oil. I put in 7 to start with, and then filled a little, check the dip stick, etc etc.

Why not switch to synthetic and go with 5w40?
It makes sense to do so...

Well I ran the 300SD for 100K on synthetic and the engine was real clean inside. I would say that for removing sludge and gunk go with Syn. There is also the ablility to extend oil change intervals, but I did not do that.

One more thing is easier starts in colder weather with the 5W40 Vs 15W40 I noticed a big difference in starting ability when I went from dino Rotella 15W40 to synthetic 5W40.

Just some reasons...

Only reason why not to switch is the added cost, but I had figured it was cheaper than rebuilding the engine.

Castrol.

Castrol is good motor oil... really good motor oil, generally.

Castor oil is completely different, and less suitable for engine use.
