How about if we throw the 124 into the debate as well? So we have a late model Honda Civic, 123, 124 and 126.

I think the 124 wagon handles better than the civic hybrid. The wagon has new Falken's 205/60 15. The HCH 2 has 195/65 15, the same size tire the wagon came with new.
The W124 is a nice car, it most certianly is a better handling car than both the W123 and W126...unless AMG went nuts with the W126.

It does very much come down to the driver. In my friends truck, which ain't stock, we raced a previous gen M3, and killed it. The M3 driver didn't know how to shift...

My cousin murdered a Subaru STI with a bunch of mods in his 330CI which is more or less stock. Subaru owner couldn't shift.

I'd happly give up 20mpg and pay for 93 octane so I could drive a MB.

I can put up with paying a bit more for fuel, I cannot put up with a plastic fantastic interior, and FWD. Hence why my Jetta is currantly a cube, and I am hoping to replace it with another MB.

Me too,. She likes it though and I only have to ride in it once in a while. My 5.5 year old son likes the Honda better. My 3 year old daughter likes the 'cedes car better. She obviously has better taste. Nobody likes the CTD, well I do if someone is up my a$$.

I test drove a 2006 Civic which is identical to the 2007 and I didn't like it either which is why I got the previous generation. It's by far the best handling FWD vehicle I have driven. I even forget that it is a FWD.
I'd like to drive a MB as a daily driver but past experience has shown me that it comes with a hefty price / time investment, the later being my case since I don't own a bank and I can't afford a mechanic to maintain one for me.
I got the Honda so I can get to work and travel reliably and economically and take back my free time.
MB's will always remain a hobby with me.

Well my mom loves her Rav4. I drove the damn thing half way to and back from FL, fine car... All I did while drive it was wish for a MB. I thought about how fantastic my friends S320 or my SDL would be on those same roads.

If your not really into cars and just want something nice to get around in they are hard to beat. The Rav, Civic, and whatever are really hard to fault... But if you want more they fall short...

I still think for trips like driving down to FL, the S class is the best choice. They just inhale the miles in a totaly effortless manner; throw in a big fuel tank and your bladder dictates when you have to stop, not the car.

If I could take any car on a long road trip it would be my friends S600. Almost 20mpg on the open road drawing from a 26.5 gallon tank gives plenty of range. The massive V12 is just loafing at 80 and silent, so no effort, passing is an effortless toe flex. The perfect seats, CC, and sound system keep you comfortable and awake. And on those nice flat sections of road you almost don't need to hold the wheel, the W140 will just track perfectly straight. So you won't get tired fighting to keep it on the road.

How true! We once went to San Francisco from Los Angeles, got Carl's Jr. take out and kept the coffee cups in the car. Some of my family members had to stretch and use the restroom, so I pulled over at the next exit. There was a Carl's Jr. there, got in, walked to the vending machine and just refilled my coffee

People at the dealership here might let me test drive something.....maybe in a few months when I've secured a job I will put on nice clothes and head over to the dealer.....and see if I can test drive a cdi or V8 model.... Not that I could ever afford or buy (or would want to buy) a new car (maybe, someday if funds allowed)....but it'd be fun to try out.

The sad part is that even with the small M103 you can out pace the legal speed limit in about 9-10 seconds.....and be in prison territory in about 15 seconds......so you'd never get to make full use of a V8 or V12......not that it would stop me from wanting/owning one....but its sad that we have no limit-free roadways. Then again with a V12 and the limiter removed you could aways try to quickly disappear if a cop pulled out after you.

I'm pretty much set on getting a black on black W140 S320 in the not too distant future as my "other car". Not sure which one I'd drive more though....I'd probably fall for the W140 in all honesty....but the diesel will always be awesome....and I'll be driving it whenever the W140 is down for repair....

You've got to put yourself in a nice 603 car Paul, can still pull 9second 0-60s, bust a buck and a quarter on the open road, sprint onto on-ramps, all that with 30mpg+ and no black smoke. Performance is as good as the 300TE 2.6 and within spitting distance of the 300E.

Otherwise look around for a 190Dt, if I were 2inches shorter and had no need for a full-sized rear seat I would have kept that car, much more tossable even with stock suspension and tires and only a second slower 0-60 than the 300D/603t.

I was followed by one of these today, think I could have taken it?

Talk about a balls out sports car, doubt I would even fit in it. I know I can't fit in an S2000 and that looks smaller.

Lotus Elise, one of the best handling cars in the world. Its the modern version of the classic British sports car.

Try an Audi TT if you want a car you can't fit in.
Sheesh, I remember trying. Numerous times.

Had to drive the thing about 100 miles one time... in one day... with the top up. That was living heck.

Very fun little car as long as the top is open and you don't mind your knees eating the steering wheel. Lots of power and turbo whoosh noise, for what it is.

I know my cousin doesn't fit in it, he's about 6'1". Nor does he fit comfortably in an SLK...we tried at the dealer a while back . However we both fit perfectly in the SL they had on the floor

A 97-98 SL500 is definitely on my list. The 722.6 mated to the last of the M119...none of that M113 garbage
