Where do I find the engine serial number?

Hey, all, I'm getting ready to order alternator, AC and power steering belts for my wife's 81 300D and daughters 82 240D from ******** AZ. I need the engine serial # to get the correct belts. Where, exactly, do I find the serial #'s. My son_in_law borrowed my Haynes manual today, and I'd like to get these ordered, so I'm calling on my most knowledgable friend in this area, Mercedesshop and associates for a quick answer. (And, please, no "it's on the engine" replies. My wife already tried that one. Thanks to anyone who's on right now. Lee

You certainly need more patience. You couldn't wait more than 22 minutes before asking again? Most forum members will ignore you for that.
The numbers can be found on the driver's side of the block near the head.

Drivers side of the block, towards the rear, just below the head.

Usually they want the last 6 digits or the last 8 digits.

Sorry, lietuvia- I'm working 6-10's right now. I actually have more patience than time, and some posts after mine (nearly all) had racked up quite a few replies. 45 or more. I figured if I waited much longer, it might not get an answer. I will say I find it hard to believe that this fine forum would reject someone in need for being in a hurry. Maybe the old, grumpy ones who have forgotten what it's like (I'm almost there!) I would say, "some" forum members would ignore me, but I don't believe most is correct. So, thanks to you and the others who replied the post. I do appreciate it. But I couldn't make it back on until this morning. Time waits for no one. LB
