It took my local MB dealer two tries to get an alignment right as well. I did use a coupon which brought the price to $130 down from $160. I should have asked if they used a spreader bar or not, probably just laser alignment. They did get it spot-on though and I'm happy. Could have had some chain store do it for half the price and they probably have the same Laser alignment system, but I didn't know any around here that had experience with w123s.

A good service dept in a car dealership with a laser alignment machine can align a Benz. I bring mine to my Ford dealer and always ask for the "old timer" mechanic who does strictly alignment to do the work. Never have to go back for a redo. And its only $54 for a 4-wheel alignment.

got it done at a place a local benz driver told me about. I called right after I posted this, and they said they could get me in at 10 am. so I got my butt down there. it was like driving a boat.

$69.95, out the door. but it pulls to the left. I had some old skins (wore out tires) that I put on to drive there,as to not ruin good tires.I had good rubber on rims in the back. they did the alignment w/ the old tires, I drove home w/ them, and noticed it pulling right away. being nice, I gave the benifit of the doubt, and switched on the good rubber. still pulls.
now I will rotate the tires, and see. prolly going back. i would have paid the extra $30, if I could get dealer alignment for $100, but $150 is too steep. besides, I have not heard any good things about any of the 3 dealers in the metro, as far as these "old" cars go.

the only thing i did not change was the brake stay arm cans. maybe the left is worn? didn't seem like it.

No spreader bar any more

My local alignment shop, who I know does a good job on older Mercedes (referred by friends with older MB), said that they no longer use a spreader bar because it is not required with their new equipment. They just did my alignment for $69 when I got new tires.

True, some shops don't know what they are doing with MB because they are more difficult than other cars to get right.

I was reffered to this shop- but I think maybe there is an ol timer that knows a bit more about these cars than the youngin's. I reckon I shopuld take it back and let him look it over.

I did a 150 mile RT yesterday, and was fighting the pulling to the left all the way.

I used a highly regarded local alignment and suspension shop for my 190e, and more recently for my 300CD. PM me if you need details.

The alignment on my 190e cured some strange f/end creaking noises that occured only during low speed parking maneuvers.

The alignment on my 300CD was needed after I completely rebuilt the f/end.

Needless to say, both cars now drive great!

I had an alignment done on a 123 at Firestone, $60. Didn't have the car long enough afterward to tell if it was a good move.
They wouldn't touch my 126, took it to the dealer, they wanted all new components before they would touch it. Took it to Sears, they have a laser aligner, $90 for all four wheels, 6 month, 6000 mile warranty, has since expired, no problems.

just called one of the local dealers here in toronto (mecedes-benz dundas) and the alignment is 235.00 and that is supposed to be a discounted rate.

I had great luck with my local place (non MB Dealer). They found a structural problem. My lower control/support arm was bend (rear Passenger side). Removed/Replaced, 4 wheel alignment, and 2 tires 400.00. (100.00 was the alignment). I'm happy and it's not eating tires.

Which dealer is that? That might be a good option for our 300D sometime soon...

Fox Ford. Insist on Jim Kwiatkowski doing it or else I don't let them do it.
