my cruise also works if you want to test it in mine. I got 2 amps from the pick and pull this weekend. One works and one doesnt. I was planning to keep one as a spare but if you got something interesting to trade?

I know General Dynamics can refurb the amp as well as the actuator.

How do I test either to make sure they are good? I hope its just the amp because .. jeeze the actuators are expensive.

BTW, the car I got the good amp from still had the actuator too

Very many times, if the cruise amp is the problem, it is from a failed solder joint. If you are handy, simply re-flowing and adding a touch of fresh solder will have you resting your right foot in no time. I have done this to all 3 of our cars to correct our lack of cruise. If you are lacking the equipment, time, ability.... I have soldered a couple for friends and do a lot of soldering for work.

I had non-working cruise as well, so I took out the cruise control amp by removing the driver's foot panel, one 10mm bolt on the brake pedal housing, and disconnected the amp and removed it. I pried back the aluminum tabs on the amp with a screwdriver, took it over to a well-lit workplace, and re-soldered every joint on the board, added solder a few places. I reinstalled it, now I have working cruise. Now, for a roadtrip.

I've done that 3 times to mine, the second try got it working nearly perfectly....for about 100 miles.....then it was dead/messed up again. I'm sick of trying to fix it, and the aftermarket system should work fine.

As an added precaution, I might run a vac "emergency" valve into the cabin under the dash, so if it ever acted up, I could open that and siphon off all vac from the actuator.....(its a vac unit)...thereby disabling it. It also disengages from the brake lights going on, as well as the buttons on the unit itself....I doubt there's any risk there....not any more than with the stock setup.

Without totally derailing the thread, where did you find a boneyard near Lutz with 123's to pick over?

My cruise works too, but the three amps I've gotten from pick n pull all test bad. Unless I'm not testing right. Do you just hook them up and leave them hanging, or do you need to ground the outside case?

I just leave them hang. I have gotten pretty good at
changing them at a stop light on the way home from
the PNP.

I installed the vaccum Audiovox system in my SD a few months ago, and it works great and is easy to install. All wiring can be hooked up to the connector under the dash that the stock cruise amp plugs into. I am using the stock control stalk. Some sort of vacuum canaster is manditory though. I used the audiovox one, though you could probably find something from a wrecking yard. Total cost... about $130 from ebay. Took about 3-4 hours to install.
