HELP... 1986 300SDL 'slow' odometer question
On the 'new' SDL, the odometer turns about 1/3 as fast as it should. In other words I can go about 3 miles for every one mile the odo clicks off. This is the same for both the accumulated miles and the trip. I looked in the DIY and the fixes are for dead odometers not for slow running ones. Has anybody had this problem before and what did you do to fix it? I am going to pull the cluster this weekend and want to tackle this problem.
I also have a slow running clock which I am going to remove and clean. Would the tach/clock from a 1981 300SD work in a 1986 SDL? The tachometer and clock in Bruno work well. Thanks!! Joe

A slow odometer is on its way to being a dead odometer since the gears are slipping/skipping.
The fixes should work the same for you. |

OK... I was just wondering if it could be electrical in nature instead of mechanical as it seems pretty consistent running at 1/3 speed.
I will open it and check.
