It wasn't serious ... good lord. I spend a great portion of my time considering and discussing the economic situation in this country, including of course the price of oil and fuel. It is an extremely dismal topic, but one that can't be avoided. But forgive me if I want to occasionally pop off with a silly comment now ... it's simply in the spirit of taking a few seconds every day to laugh, even if at one's own misfortune, because otherwise the weight of mankind's general depravity just becomes suffocating.

I don't make "rationales." It is what it is. I couldn't fool myself if I wanted to. That said, I'm also not shallow enough to fool myself into thinking an oil company is to blame for an entire nation's discretionary flub.

BTW, I stopped at that Exxon because it was convenient.

Highest I've seen around here is $4.25.....it can still be had as low as $4.09 in the right places though....however they are extremely few and none are near me....so I've been paying about $4.15 or $4.19 lately....
