The the rubber biscuit at the top of each engine shock. I think it comes as a kit - rubber biscuit, washers, nut, etc.

Interestingly enough this came up in a discussion I had recently and the other person was of the opinion that these "dampers" that sit above and over from the Motor Mount were more trouble than they were even worth and advocated removal rather than replacement of them. They don't look like they do all that much to me either...

Any discussion on that?

I think they serve mostly to quell the final shake when you shut off the engine.

I finished changing motor mounts today and managed to damage one of my engine dampers (the piston rod unscrewed from the internal piston and all the oil inside one damper dumped out). So, I will be driving my car with either of the engine dampers until I get another.
From the little bit of driving I did I could not see or feel any difference without the dampers. But I have yet to drive the car and get it really hot; that is when it shakes some; at idle in drive.
But when I pulled and pushed on the good damper I was surprised at how much force it took to move it. They must have some effect on vibration. Also the lower rubber damper mounts are soft and mushy; I doubt if the dampers can work well if the mounts are not firm enough.

There's a slot in the shaft of the damper that you use to hold it in place.
