thread for prospective 124 buyers?

Isn't there a thread on what to look for when considering a W124 to buy? I can't put together the search terms to find it.

Thanks,
Sixto

I attached it as a word file to this post. I can never find it either and I'm not smart enough to bookmark it.
Need link to 124 buyers guide

It is also at the bottom of this thread. I think we need a list of buying guides in the DIY section.

Thanks for re-posting this. Good info in there; this ought indeed to be a sticky.

I am curious about the following passage from the referenced article:

"15- Emissions junk: With the trap removed, the Air Recirculation
Valve (ARV) on the turbo is not needed. Find the small vacuum line to
the turbo (not the large rubber wasgate line!) and plug it with a BB.
Do the same with the EGR valve. This can increase part-throttle power,
as well as MPG, and also may correct a cruise surging problem. If you
want a cleaner engine compartment, all the solenoids under the air
cleaner can be removed, along with the three vacuum lines that go
across the top of the radiator. Don't forget to plug the unused ports
on the 5-way splitter above the vacuum pump, or replace it with a
3-way splitter. The large black line is a vent to the passenger
compartment."

I though the EGR line could not be plugged as the computer would recognize this and restrict boost (?). Perhaps that is only in later generation 124's -- mine is a '92.

Thanks!

It is possible that the later 124s have more computerized stuff. The '87 (including mine) has almost none of that; the EGR can be completely removed along with the vacuum junk behind the right headlight and the ARV capped off. I haven't noticed any performance differences but the IM should be a lot cleaner inside without all that soot.

I think that you are correct, the '92 & '93 will cut boost with the EGT line plugged. Not true with the earlier ones.

I believe that there is a thread on updating the '92/'93 602 wastegate to a vacuum-open version from the vacuum-closed to remedy this.
