I need body/year/style clarification please..

I have a 1985 300DT.
I'm looking at buying a 1987 300D as my parts car. Will that work?
I'm looking to swap out back bumpers, maybe the quarter panels, and definitely the back light assemblies.
Experts, please lemme know if these are the same bodies.
Thanks again in advance.
Jay

ps. the love affair continues........

While my MB was in the garage for the winter, I drove a nice Buick. The longer I went without driving my Benz, the more the idea came to mind of fixing her up just a little and selling her.

Yesterday I wiped the half a cup of tranny fluid off the floor, wiped away the mystery anti-freeze off the floor and shroud (I say mystery because now that I refilled the resevoir and ran the car-no more anti-freeze anywhere. hmmm), charged the battery, and took the blankets off of her.
When she started, it was like it hadn't been sitting for 4 months.
Now that I've driven it for a day, even with all the things that needs addressed and taken care of.....how could I consider selling this car?

I continue to drive it and will continue to keep fixing her up with my pipe dream of having her completely back to A-1 one of these days, one little fix at a time......while my buddies drop $400-$500 per month in car payments and end up spending more money on their repairs in the 3rd and 4th years than I do! I'll just keep driving my 22 year old head turning tank.

-just had to share that with others that might understand.

The 1987 is a w124 chassis and the 1985 is a w123. Look for a w123 parts car.

Hey wordmanjay.

See if this helps at all:

http://home.hiwaay.net/~gbf/mbmodels.html

and just remember NOT everything from one w123 fits another w123.

Damn! I meant 1978, not 1987.

That was dumb. Sorry about that.
That link rocked.
Yes, it does seem that a 1978 300D will work as my parts car for my 1985 300DT.
Sorry and thanks.

mostly chassis items..

300D sedans, CD's and wagons are the same from the front bumper to dash ( exception of the front doors of the wagon, the coupes are longer)

everything else behind the doors is different bodywise, some suspension and mechanical items will swap rear of the doors.. everything forward will swap, with the exception of turbo specific parts and junk
