Hey, Hatteras Guy. What's that handle doing up in Yankee land. Don't know bout stripers. Both of our Whaler Montauks are down. Waiting in line behind fine German autos for service.

yah traction on these cars suck. One day when it was raining I was making a u turn and i gave it alittle gas, well the car downshifted and BAMMM!! the rearend almost came around. Yah so i dont think that these cars would be a good option for towing. Hey you could drop a 617 turbo into the Suburban.

They have great traction. Of course a u turn in the rain will cause it to break traction if you aren't careful.

I have never pulled a boat out of the water so I cannot comment on that issue.

But if the factory approved towing I believe if set up properly it should easily tow 2200# on the road....for occasional use.

I took it from Hatteras Yachts, I'm a huge fan. I think they make the best production boat out their. Cape Hatteras is a great spot to fish as well, I have fished a out of Oragon(sp?) inlet which is just north.

The bass are running! I saw a guy on the beach land a nice one last week!

They get good enough traction, we've used our 300D to yank one of the SD's out of the snow (deep snow) before...and it did fine. Even in snow! I've driven up fairly steep hills on dirt roads before with no issues....

We use our SD's to pull around our 350lb flatbed trailer.....(empty weight) + stuff on it...

I used it the other day to go pick up an entire set of W126 seats.....on the way there I did 78-80mph and didn't even know it was there....on the way back I went 65-70ish no problem with an extra 175lbs on the trailer....not to mention very un-aerodynamic.

We've pulled as much as 1100lbs with the SD's....and they handle it easy. So I'd imagine a wagon could easily handle 2200.

Your crazy for going that fast with one of thise utility trailers! Those things scare me I see people dragging them behind SUV's at 80 all the time, the freaken trailer is going everywhere and they are oblivious.

I won't go over 65-70 towing anything, unless it was a real over the road trailer. With a tandem or triple axle boat trailer you can move pretty quick, you just better make damn sure your wheel bearings are in good shape.

I can see it in my mirrors when driving, it didn't sway/move at all even at 80, it hugs the road! The tires say "high speed" on them....

Its an awesome little trailer. I even upgraded it with LED lighting and such.

If I ever see smoke coming off one of the tires on the trailer I'll know its bearing time. They are in great shape though, it has pretty low miles on it. (its only 3 years old)

Those litle dinky tires spin at like a million RPM at those speeds! Check those wheel bearings every once in awhile.

We had one seize up on the aluminum boat trailer, luckly we caught it before we got stuck. It started to get hot.

Yeah I inspect it before I use it....its only a few years old (3) so its all in good shape. Tires are excellent and they spin smoothly and freely.

I tried to pull our old Sea Ray up the boat ramp once in my wagon, and thought I was going to break my car in the process... Struggled bad, and spun em when I got half way up the ramp....

We have a G500 that pulls the boat up the ramp perfectly now. The lockers+low range pull out new boat out of the water with ease... Not even hitting the gas in the process....

I launched my waverunners with the G500, on the sandy beach, and it refused to get stuck.... It was fun throwing sand everywhere though.

I picked up a boat and trailer (2300 lbs +/-) over in NH last summer with the '85 190D. Had no idea how big and heavy it was until I backed up to it; bloody boat dwarfed the car. But, I was in the area and it saved having to make a special trip 400+ miles to fetch the thing. Slid the boat until the tongue weight was right, greased the bearings, put air in the tires and put 'er in drive and headed west. Went easy through the mountains, shifted down to third manually (a lot) to avoid lugging the little four cylinder but once I hit flatland in the Champlain Valley she hummed along at 70 with no problem and made it home uneventfully. All that said, I wouldn't dream of backing down a ramp with it.

The S-Class Mercs seem to have heavy tails for sedans. They fare well in weight distribution. The W123/W124/and W210 have really light rears. They will break free quite easily...The exceptions are the wagon models.

I don't think its true that the 123s are light in the tail.

I have weighed all four corners on my 84 280e and it is about 51 49 front/ rear. Thats pretty balanced in my book. A wagon is probably heavy in the rear by the same amount though.

This is nothing like some cars such as mustangs with v8s which routinely approach 60% of the weight on the front.

Ditto on 124 and 201, close to perfect 50/50.

I pull 500 - 1000# all the time with a 4x8 utility trailer.
I have pulled over 2000# several times for 500 mi, no biggie.

And I damn near fried the trans on a boat ramp, NEVER again for that stunt.
