A cure for the 2nd gear grind on your 240D 4spd

Before I swapped engines in my 240D a couple of months ago, 2nd gear was grinding quite a bit, and sometimes even 3rd. A few things I did to alleviate the problem :

1. Adjusted the new anti vibration t-mount tight against the bottom of the engine.

2. Put some fresh Redline MTL in the transmission.

3. Changed the rubber bushings on the transmission levers.

Not only have I been able to shift without any grinding, it actually feels like it wants to go into second. Hope this works for some of you.

MTL made my 2 and 3 shifts grid more often.

Redline D6 ATF is actually the correct fluid to use.

Been having the 2 to 3 shift grinding once in a while. Didn't happen till I changed the oil with Dexron ATF fluid. Was kind of milky looking so thought it should be changed. Guess that was a mistake.

So we have one pro and one con for Redline MTL and a pro for Redline D6. Any other suggestions I could try? Where do you buy Redline oil?

I thought some manual transmissions ran on heavyweight gear oil rather than thin ATF... I don't know for a fact if this is true with Mercedes transmissions or not.

Grinding == syncros going bye bye. Double clutch, deal with it or rebuild the tranny. You can optionally just put a new tranny in. I am collecting spares as the engines tend to outlast the tranny.
