trouble removing transmission 76 300D 115
I have a 1976 300D 115. My trans had been slipping for the last year and I expected it to go out, well it went out (at least close to home) and I put a deposit on one at a local junkyard. I was able to remove all the bolts except the 10mm hex bolt above the starter. Now I am stuck. Any suggestions as how to best remove that last bolt? am I getting in too deep? will I be able to swap the trans? in the meantime I found a 1979 300SD 116 that is super clean with only 156,000 mi and now have the time to fix the old 76

Are you referring to the top bolt that holds the starter on? If so, you can search on starter removal and get lots of hints about this ***** of a bolt.
You need about 3' of extensions, a universal joint, a hex socket and a long breaker bar. Slide the extensions up alongside the transmission, clean out the inside of the hex bolt to make sure the socket is deeply seated, and then put some muscle on the breaker bar. Never an easy bolt to loosen. |
You can also use a moveable head ratchet to get to this bolt.
