Are the Fastlane (worldpac) oil cooler lines as good as OEM? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I was looking online (fastlane,********az...etc...) at the worldpac oil cooler lines, and they look....different...than OEM ones.....the worldpac lines have only a single crimp on the "lower" line, while the upper has dual crimps. OEM lines have dual crimps on both.

Any opinions on the worldpac lines? Are they junk or are they good? The '83 300SD needs new lines, and we don't want to put ones on that are not of the best quality.....

I seem to remember some people saying the online-hoses started leaking right away.....that would be un-cool....especially with the amt of work it takes to swap them.

I'll probably just call the dealer for them....unless people here really say the worldpac ones are good....

I have installed 5 "worldpac" type and 1 "MB" on 3 of my cars. The reason for the "MB" one is that the "Worldpac" one I bought developed a pinhole leak in it shortly after I got it (from Rusty Cullens- and he replaced it with a "MB" one).

Even with that PITA issue, I am not sure the OEM ones are worth the extra cost. I don't trust any of these much past 10 years and plan on replacing them all when they get that old. The generic ones are certainly thinner (more flexible is good for the cooler), but I think most of the failures are at the crimp, not the ribber itself.

My Conti's were double crimped! That was one reason I got them!

I'm seriously paranoid.....I wasn't planning on doing this job yet....but I suppose it's time to load up the shopping cart. I'm going with the conti's, I think.

The soft rubber hose did bother me, but after I cut open one of the MB ones, they are only nylon fiber braided in there. Someone on my other post had suggested that I take my old ones and have them refit or remade with whatever hydraulic hose I can choose for spares! Not a bad idea I think!

Call up Phil an ask for OE, I'm not a huge fan of some Worldpac stuff.

So despite the thinner rubber.....are they ok? We're also considering taking the old ones to a shop....

I doubt they will blow, but I also doubt they will last 25 years like the OE lines.

My mom just started dating some guy that owns a hydraulic shop......maybe it's time to find out if he's a worthy suitor?

I'd like the SS ones too.....but I'm too lazy to get something made up. I think I'll just be proactive in changing the Conti's out every 10 years, should my car and I live that long.

This is for my dad's car....he's not sure if he'll even have the car another 10 years.....oh well...we'll see.

Does anyone know the psi rating on the hose used on the conti/worldpac lines? I know the OEM lines are super strong wrapped type....they'll never blow...

I can probably read you the rating off the Conti ones...but I am sure it is rated well above what it needs to be. It's really a question of your preference. The OEM ones provide a safety factor in that they are much thicker and can take a bit of chafing and abuse whereas the contis won't.

I hacksawed all the connector nuts off my old ones ( to save the coolers) and used plenty of anti-seize when I installed all of these. I will probably seek out a hydraulic shop to re-do these (in bulk) when the time comes in about 6 years or so.

If you have a local hose place you can get new hoses crimped on for a lot less.

They will crimp on really good hoses if you ask them to! Maybe something with a 500 bar burst pressure.

Mine were original when I replaced them last month. Not bad for a 25 year old Jersey car...

I was thinking about this becuase I had the local hyd shop do my clutch line for about 1/2 of what the NLA MB one was. But are the ends anything special or will they have replacements for those to make the line from scratch?

I just replaced my oil cooler lines with the WorldPac (Cohline) ones. One was defective out of the box. It had a hole where the fitting was brazed to the hard line. Had to do the job twice to get it to stop leaking.
