1985 300TD ignition lock housing removal

I have sucessfully removed the ignition from "Frieda" and I am trying to remove the lock housing. I moved the key to position one, inserting a small stout wire in hole, making sure it is going down the hole and nothing happens. I have pushed, wiggled and sprayed with WD40.

Any ideas?

Thanks

With the wire in place, you need to unscrew the "ring" around the tumbler until you can remove it.

You should be able to feel the wire engage the little tab and retract it. I just used a normal paper clip to do mine. Try moving the key left and right a little to get the wire aligned with the little tab.

The wire goes into the hole and into hole in the cylinder. The key will not turn while the wire is in the hole in the cylinder. There does not seem to be a tab.

The problem that I am trying to fix is that the key would not turn in the ignition. Is it possible that there is a piece blocking the tab?

Thank you
