617 Adapters to other trans??
I went through the two 617 in Chevy truck threads... I'm familiar with how SeriesTrek mounted his to the GM SM465 transmission... Just curious how other people are adapting them to other transmissions such as the F100 thread and the other hot rod... Any info appreciated!

I think the F100 is using a MB auto transmission. I'm not sure about the "hotrod" truck.

Just an FYI I have been speaking with 4x4 Labs in Grass Valley California and they are now finally getting the adapter ready. They have already done a couple of prototypes that they are correcting... It will be a cluch housing and a custom flywheel designed to use a GM pattern and GM clutch. Myself personally, I am installing in the a generation 3 (89-94) V6 Toyota pickup, so I will use an Advance Adapters bellhousing adapter to the GM pattern, so two adapters. But it should all bolt up...
Sounds like we are 1-2 months out. I have been hearing it for years but this time I do believe it. Just an FYI... Last edited by dieslcruisrhead; 04-28-2008 at 12:59 PM. |

Keep us posted. I always thought it would be fun to have a MB diesel in a 4x4 Toyota.

An adapter kit to take out the clunky MB auto trans and swap in a cheap Chevy 5-Speed or maybe some 6-Speed? Sign me up...

Have you measure engine bay clearance? the 617 is a lot longer than a v6. I have not looked at a toyota in a while, but I have a friend that is gearing up to drop a isuzu 4 cyl turbodiesel into an 86 toy 1 ton- he opted to not use the 617 because of the length.

There is another gent who put a OM617 with the stock trans into his 4 runner of the same era... I cannot say how well it was done and fit, my thoughts were a thin electric fan and it should work... Not 100% though, I will start measuring, I've located the engine I should break out the tape measure...

Wasn't it you who put a 6.5TD into a scout II a while back? How did that work out?

No, I have mostly installed Cummins 4BT engines into Land Cruisers and helped install a Isuzu 4BD1T (4 cyl turbo from a cabover truck) also into a Land Cruiser. I also own the www.4BTswaps.com forum...

nice conversion--that would be a sweet truck. until it rusted in half...
it looks like one could gain a few inches by using an electric fan- maybe even a pusher?? if you weren't towing much it could work...........??
