W124 300D (6cyl) rpm sensor question
Dear All,
A question: Where is the rpm sensor located on these 6cyl engines? I do not see (maybe I am just blind) the crankshaft pulley pin and sensor like on the 5 cylinder version. Sometimes the signal is lost and then I do not get an rpm reading inside and the engine runs rough (plus check engine light comes on). I'd like to debug it but for that I'd need to know where the signal comes from. Thanks, Greg

It's on the very rear of the oil pan, driver's side. I once experienced the same thing on the highway. Tach indicated idle rpm, engine ran rough and lost some power. The whole thing lasted +- 30 seconds and never returned.

Engine oil pan. Near where it mates to the transmission.

I think of it more as below the oil filter.
In my car there's a wire that runs from the fender to below the injection pump then disappears behind the oil filter. Follow that wire if you can see it. Sixto 87 300D |
