make sure the car is jacked up on the side your removing the shock on. That way the shock is not compressed, and youll have to do that anyway to remove a rear shock

I just replaced my rears
I replaced my rears with Bilstein comforts I bought through Adsitco. Very satisfied with both the shocks and the transaction. They were the cheapest for me....
It was labor intensive (time only) Taking out the seat, uninstall and reinstall for both probably took me about 2 1/2 hours solo.... You need a high jack or a jack with blocks to raise the car high enough for clearance to drop the shocks out of the bottom....Didn't need any special tools, but my mini vise grips broke messing with the top nuts on the shock... There are good writeups here if you search.

About to do the shocks. How do I tell if my new shocks are compressed and if they aren't....how do I go about it. Thanks. Oh and do I need to take the tires off? I have a deep hole in the ground on my property so I don't have to jack anything up unless I need to take the tires off. Thanks.

I hate to push for an answer but as soon as someone can tell me if I have to take the tires off I can start this job. Sorry....

So my rear tires are on ramps and the shocks are over deep holes in the ground. Can I just take the shocks out and put the new ones in or do I NEED to take the load off the springs???

Oh man...I hope this isn't terrible....I removed the nut on the top of the shock and when I tried loosening the nuts on the bottom the bolts that they are threaded onto started moving too!!! Does that mean I ruined the threads on the bolts or does that mean the inside threads are busting up too? Jesus I hope this isn't as bad as it seems.....Anyone care to offer suggestion? Thanks....

looks like the bolt on the bottom of the shock is angling a bit as I try to turn just the nut. No no....this can't be good....What can I do?

First you need the wheel off the ground. I'm not sure about the lower bolt...

wow
From what you describe it doesn't sound like you damaged the thread. You should be able to rotate them even when they are installed.
Take tire off. I think you still want to take the tire off though. It was a little tricky for me to line everything up solo. If you had a helper hold them in place while you maneuver it may be easier. The lower bolts are a little tricky to line up when I did it solo...

I'm not sure what kind of experience you've had with Adsitco, but I've been buying from them for years (along with Performance Products and Phil here on the site) - shocks, side trim, hood pad, etc. good prices, quick delivery and they have had parts (or could get them) I couldn't find anywhere else other than the MB dealership.
