Intake and EGR cleaning question

Hello all,

My 1998 E300DT will soon have a clean intake manifold. I am using a Super Cirtrus (water based) cleaning solution to degrease and clean the intake manifold and EGR and I have a few questions.

1) Can I submerse the EGR in the cleaning solution (even if it is biodiesel, citrus, regular diesel)? I am wondering if there is anything inside the EGR that might be affected by the cleaning solutions, like rubber.

2) When I removed the EGR from the intake manifold, I noticed that it didn't have a gasket. Should there be a gasket here?

Thank you.
