Though it truly would be an adventure, it just doesn't seem safe to me.

That car isn't safe to drive at any speed, and it amazes me that someone would endanger other drivers in this fashion just to avoid paying for a trailer. I'm sure the car still doesn't have a key, so the lights don't work.

As I mentioned in the Key thread, I drove back to Nashville and got the key yesterday then drove back to Indy. I also picked up the title in case of discrepencies.

Thank you for your opinion, although I must say, I am leaning toward trying it. I did some driving at 45 and 50 mph in the carolla down the interstate yesterday with hazard lights on just to test peoples reactions. It really seemed like nobody was having too much of a problem getting around me.

Bah just go blasting down the interstate, you'll probably die when the wheel falls off but meh what can you do.

But a trailer is like $300, I wonder how much my attorney could extract from him if he hit me...at least the $300 he saved...

I'd like to take out some life insurance on you with me as the beneficiary before you take off and attempt this.... Probably better odds than a lottery ticket it will pay off....

Chassis puller

1) Tie stranded steel tow cable around RR control arm, just inboard of wheel.

2) Tie other end of cable around big tree

3) Keep pulling car forward and yanking on suspension until wheel is approximately pointed straight ahead.

4) Drive

I actually did this with a 64 VW Bug and with the offending tree, seeing as to how the brakes failed as I was cruising up the driveway and it was the big ol oak tree or the rear of Mom's car

Got a PU truck. Rent just a cheap tow dolly from u-haul and place it on there backwards.
If it will not go over 45 without shaking till you can not controll the car, then I would not do it.

If the suspension isn't bent, why is the top of the wheel tilting inward?

You know you are going to do it.
Shave, shower, wear a suit and tie. It might help if you have any further problems.
I'd suggest you stay off the I state and stick to 2 lanes. A rear tire coming off at 40-45 is not too bad, god help you if it hits someone. Finding the tire in the dark might be a problem though, which is why I'd do it in the daylight.

Still havn't left yet.

Well, im getting cold feet. But I may leave during the day tomorrow. I still have to get a 20 foot line to run into the gas tank, but that shouldn't be a problem. I will test the vehicle on backroads and try to see what happens when I get above 50. If it feels like it can sustain it, i will be leaving tomorrow during the day.

The comments about speed perception in the day being better are very logical. Also, sticking to backroads is definitely plausible considdering that I have no time constraints.

Tire blow outs happen all the time (you always see tire scraps in/on the sides of roads, dont you? ). Thats basicaly loosing a tire. If the car starts making grinding noises from the rear or something then Id check it out but if no noises, then Id actually feel ok driving it.

This is why people today are so bored, knowone has any balls left. If you do it, you can tell your grandkids "yeah dude I drove 400 miles in a car that had a wheel bent sideways, its was awesome!"

Its your choice, if you do be careful, drive slow, if possible make sure you have plenty of defensible space to the side and behind you

The tire blowing out is actually what I have so far been most concerned with. However, I do have a spare and I'm not afraid to use it too. This car will make it to Nashville. Thanks for the encouragement.

With that in mind.. you may beable to get away with "one legging" it the entire way.. weld the cv-joint to the body so it doesnt move. But then again... at 45 Mph that will fry the spider gears real quick.
