Help - My 240D left me stranded

You guys helped me in an earlier post with a transmission shifting problem for which I am still thankful. Now on to my new problem:

Driving the car it started to stumble. It was on the highway. Just started losing speed. The symptons were very similar to one time my car died because the fuel filter was clogged. Just had a 30,000 mile service and looking at the filter it is clean. Any ideas for feedback would be appreciated.

The advice is always the same when a diesel fails to run:

Change both primary and secondary fuel filters.

It does not matter whether the filters were previously changed yesterday..........or five years ago.

Thanks Brian - I hope it is that simple. The smaller fuel filter is the one I checked (not sure if primary or secoundary).

I will keep you posted.

Any other thoughts - anyone?

The smaller one is the primary. Checking it visually is generally meaningless unless it's plugged with fungus.

There will be all sorts of "other thoughts". None of them matter until you do both filters.

Change both filters first. If you still have problems you might have to clean the screen that is inside your fuel tank and blow out your fuel lines. We can talk about that later if it actually has to come to that.

If you just had a service and the filters were replaced, it's possible that a filter or hose connection was not tightened and you are sucking air into the fuel system. So check the connections when replacing the filters.

Primer pump too will kill the car if left loose with pump handle not tightened down.

End of story:

Well both fuel filters were OK however I had them changed. The culprit was the screen coming from the fuel tank was all gummed up. Replaced the screen and the other filters for good measure.

Thanks for everyones input and guidance.
