270 sprinter cdi 2.7
There does not seem to be good information available on these. It seems the engine used in the commercial vans is similiar to the ones used in the sedans and suv's. I have a couple of questions:
1. Is this an electronic engine? 2. What trannies could this be bolted to? Any other info on the specs, ie, dimensions, weight etc. I'm unbelievably curious... thanks, Jason |

Most definitely electronic. The thing won't run at all without its computer. Every injection event is controlled and triggered by the computer.
Don't think it will bolt up to any older transmissions. I wouldn't be surprised if it needs some sort of electronic link with the tranny too

Engine and tranny are both completely computer controlled. The Sprinter models were available in Europe with a manual but MB only uses automatics in the USA.
The old 2.7L I-5 engine was used only in the Sprinter in the USA, in Europe it was used in many sedans. 2,687 cc 2.7 liters inline-5 front engine with 87.9 mm bore, 88.4 mm stroke, 18 compression ratio, double overhead cam and four valves per cylinder, 154hp @ 3,800rpm, 243lb/ft @ 1,600rpm. The 3.0L V6 is the exact same one used in the current E/ML/R/GL320 and Jeep Grand Cherokee models but derated from 215hp to 154hp. 2,987 cc 3.0 liters V6 front engine with 83.0 mm bore, 92.0 mm stroke, 18.0 compression ratio and four valves per cylinder, 154hp @ 3,400rpm, 280lb/ft @ 1,200rpm.
