Fuel/Water Separator....I SEARCHED!!

Anyone know of a reasonably priced fuel/water separator for a 123? It's an '83 240D to be specific. I would like to get one that has the clear bowl at the bottom and a drain cock. The Racor and Goldenrod filters are just too overpriced IMHO. I spent a couple hours going over threads and found one member who said the Napa 4348 is reasonably priced but Napa tells me they sell only the filter and not the housing.

Maybe someone has a used separator for sale? I'll also post that question under wanted to buy.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,

Bill

You seek the FM100

I have one. Easy to install, and under $70 at the time I bought it.

FM100 pre-filter upgrade: easy install, adds water seperation, inexpensive...

Just did a search on the link to the site where you bought yours to no avail. Used keywords Stanadyne FM100 . Then I tried keywords fuel water separator and found no hits. I'll give them a call. Thanks.

Bill

I suggest you call, and say you're looking for a Stanadyne FM-100 with the water bowl option. There are multiple part numbers and filter sizes available. It comes with one filter as part of the package. Don't get a filter that's too big. I ordered a 31873 filter, and it's too tall with the water bowl attached. You want the next size down.

Should I junkyard for that, or is there a place on the Internet that'll sell em? Looks pretty good.

Is there a real benefit to adding one of these filters to the stock MB system? Could I completely replace the stock filter with an aftermarket one that's easier to change?

ForcedInduction.....Does this filter have the drain cock at the bottom?

Is the bottom clear so you can tell whats in there or do you just drain it off periodically? Ideally I would like one that has the clear bowl.

How do you prime it?

And you must've found this at the junkyard, correct?

Thanks.Looks like a good setup.

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks Forced. I'll try our local bandit junkyard guy. Only one junkyard in my area and they are such crooks. Every time I go over there to get something I always find stuff I can pocket 'cause I know they're going to over charge me for the part I want. Doubt I'll find what I need there. They have mainly cars at that junk yard.

Cheers,

Bill

Not at all. Back in the 60's when I started going there with my Dad an honest owner had the place. No rip offs going on then 'cause the guy was super nice and charged reasonable prices. Wouldn't think of taking a thing from the original guy. About 5 or so years ago a new guy bought the place and prices immediately went through the roof plus he's a total a#*hole to deal with. He's mainly a scrapper and really isn't interested in selling parts, so if you want them, you pay and deal with a big grump. He tried to get $125 from me for a tire mounted on a steel 240 rim and the tire was over half gone! Only a couple of locals even bother to go there these days. Besides the stuff I take is nickel dime crap like a fuel cap if I need one or once I needed a cigarette lighter. Not like I'm taking instrument clusters or anything expensive. Only been there 3 times since he bought the place. Most often there are zero 123's anyhow.

Next closest junk yard is about a 50 mile or better drive one way so I usually go there just so I don't have to deal with Mr.Jerk.....better deals too IF you can find a 123. No trucks there though....

Cheers,

Bill
