Diesel Bureaucracy Question

What establishment oversees the quality off diesel coming out of the pumps?
Is it easy for an independent station to dilute their fuel for profit?

---been seeing alot of threads about fuel economy (for good reason), but the trend is that many have suffered SUDDEN drops.

wtf?

The EPA regulates fuel.

Dilute it with what? They can add kerosene but its almost $0.30 per gallon more expensive.

Those are individual cases, they are not an indication of a mass problem.

So the EPA is involved w/ output of refined of petroleum, not just methods / waste / affects?

I suppose many are just payng more attention, more closely now.

thanks.. still researching.

The cheapest thing they could water down their diesel with would be biodiesel and that would not account for the drop in economy that is being reported. I run B99 and my fuel economy is better than most!:D

I suspect the Better Business Bureau would be of far more use than the EPA in an individual station's fuel quality cheating.

Why dilute the fuel when it's a lot easier to "fix" the pumps to deliver less fuel than indicated?

My sentiments exactly:

bureaucracy - too much coffee

I tend towards conspiracy a bit too often, but I promise. .I am literate.

I alloso don ot think that everyone is cheating their pumps.. but they are not maintained at the proper calibration. Anyone with a "friend" in the local dept. of weights and measures can probably slip by with a good fudge, though.

In Florida it is regulated and tested by the dept. of agriculture. I suspect it's pretty much the same in most states.
