Sunroof Troubles

So my sunroof cable has been frayed by a stripped gear in the motor. No big deal right? I was going to just let my sunroof alone until I had the money to buy a new cable and motor. Well, the rear of my sunroof has started to sag down a bit, like it was wanting to retract back into the roof. This left about a 1 inch gap between my roof and the rear of my sunroof. Perfect for water, leaves and other debris to get right in above my headliner.

Soooooo.... I removed my headliner and b-pillars today only to find a giant black pan that presumably houses the sunroof when it is retracted back. The question is, how do I get access to my sunroof through this panel? Or, how can I make the back of the sunroof go/stay up until I get a new cable/motor for it. There has got to be a way because I see no where to get to the cable itself to remove it. I'm usually pretty good at these things but I am at a total loss right now.

Any ideas? Your infinite wisdom is always appreciated. Thanks!

you can remove the sunroof panel by removing the headliner section from it, unbolting the cable and taping it down so it doesnt run back into the trunk and remove it from the top.
check the DIY on installing the manual sunroof for a w123, I think it covers this topic. If not, do a search.

to remove the headliner pan involves removing the rear window. It was installed with the rear window off.

With the sunroof open pry the headliner down off of the sunroof down and then pull out through the top.

Well, considering the cable isn't really attached to the motor anymore it wont retract by itself and I can't put a socket on the large bolt on the motor to turn it manually. How do I open the sunroof? Just push it back?
