Those are necessary, but not sufficient conditions; a car can certainly be cheap, crappy, or boring without being reliable, comfortable, and inexpensive to maintain but anything that's reliable, comfortable, and inexpensive to maintain has a very good chance of being cheap, crappy, or boring (but not necessarily all three). Glad I could clear that up.

At least you finally gave a straight answer (non-sensical though it is...)

I guess that means my 79 300SD has a "very good chance" of being cheap, crappy, or boring, since it is reliable, comfortable, and inexpensive to maintain (among other things)

Although to be fair, how "inexpensive to maintain" your car is depends in large part on how handy YOU are.

If you think that was a straight answer, I need to upgrade my gibberish generator. I'm just messing with you, I could not care less about any ricers, diesel or otherwise. People should buy whatever they want, I don't really care what anyone else drives. I'm amazed that you actually tried to decode that non-sense.

I'm sure the Honda diesel will be a "good enough" car for the average transport person... but I mean, we're not just playing this game for transportation, right? These classic German diesels aren't just an economy number or a lifespan timeframe - they've got character. I can't imagine enjoying a Honda no matter what engine it's got in it... not as much as I do the Mercedes, anyway. It's great get-in-and-go transportation, I'm sure - and it may even make some economizers happy - but to me there just isn't anything else there. Kind of like Windows.

Actually they do. I used to work for Enterprise, and we bought LOTS of Accords, Civics, Odysseys, and Pilots.

That may be... Enterprise is a bit different. I do know that Honda doesn't fleet to rental car companies. That doesn't mean that rental car companies don't have the occasional Honda... and it doesn't mean that Enterprise or any other company can't go to a local dealer and buy 20. Whenever I have rented at Enterprise the cars have been a hodgepodge of models. Does each location handle their own purchasing? I don't know.

As far as quality goes, my 300TDT is 20 years old and the interior is falling apart. The dash is cracked and the door panels are falling apart since the cheap plastic rivets holding the handles to the panels have mostly failed. The wood trim is cracked at the console. Half my interior lighting doesn't work. Cruise control doesn't work. I have fixed a bunch of stuff but there is a long list to go. It is a fun car to work on and that is why I have it. It is not particularly comfortable. It is not all that fun to drive, although it is not bad, and it has not been particularly reliable.
