Interesting post........ were you working on your 240?
I have an '80 300SD that I need to R/R the sending unit... where do you find used parts for yours?

I used a 1- 7/8 SAE socket. Fits loose but works fine.

I just read your reply today, guess this must have sliped by me.

thank you for the info.

I have used a small piece of electrical wire wrapped around the end of a screwdriver, and connected to a battery to magnetize it.

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...

1) Not much power
2) Even less power
3) Not nearly enough power!! 240D w/auto

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.
