Thanks bud,

Nope, the relay is working 100% as pulled it apart and tested during the rebuild.

I think it's either the stat or bad earth as you suggest. it's a bit cold here at the moment but when warmer will pull it apart and have a good look.

Just seen you have added a pic, thanks - that looks to be the problem, tun it down the console lights come on flashing, turn it up they go outr and the binnacle lights come on (not flashing) and the console lights go out.
