Car wont turn off, have to push the "stop lever"

Well on my way home for mothers day first the plug in the fuel line came off and i fixed that. Then when i got back went to turn my car off and get to studying (finals this week) and what would you know more problems. I figured this had been covered before but didn't know how to narrow down my search from "wont shut off". What is the diagnoses trail i should take.

I have a 1984 300D Turbo Diesel

side question. I left it running at the gas station while filling up, took the keys out and went in and paid. Came back out and turned the key to on, and the glow plugs activated. This seems like it wouldn't be a good thing. What are yalls thought

You have a vacuum problem. If it happened suddenly then a vacuum hose probably came loose or a rubber connector cracked open.

Look in the engine bay for open ended tubes and make sure the brown vacuum tube on the back of th injection pump is plugged in.

You dislodged a vacuum line when you were screwing around with the leak on the return line. Look in the vicinity of your work.
