Need ALDA Seal...or new ALDA
I'm a new member to the forum but have used a ton of good info and advice to bring my ebay-purchased 87 300d in to almost good working order. Thanks to all!
Like many others, my ALDA shaft seal is worn and leaking. Can anyone give me a good, current vector to a replacement seal or a new/working ALDA? Thanks! Allen P. Fairview Heights, IL |

Some leakage is fine. There is no lack of air to supply it.

While the pressure loss might be neglegable, a constant flow of intake manifold air will eventually blacken and gum up the banjo bolts, lines, switchover valve, and ALDA.

Just take it off... I did on my 603 in the 300SDL and it makes a world of difference. No smoke either unless I 'floor it' on take off, then I make a PT Boat smoke screen

BTW, are you leaking air or oil?

Seal is leaking air out of the ALDA, i.e. reducing the pressure on the aneroids. It leaks down rapidly below about 10 psi and moderately above that. Acceleration is slow up to about 2200 rpm and then "kicks-in". I'm sure that kick is where the seal expands enough to seal and richen the mixture. I will remove it temporarily, but will soon be moving to a mountainous area and want to have it in place to adjust for altitude changes.
