4-speed stick into 300SD
So I did a bit of searching but didn't see too much information on swapping a 4-speed manual (from a 240D) into a 300SD. Lots of stuff about going into 300D's... but would a 4-speed from the 240 fit a 617.950?
I have access to a 240D parts car with a good 4-speed manual transmission for $300 (for the whole parts car). That's why I ask. |
Search "300SDS".

actually, it was posed that the 240SD would be slightly better on economy than a 240D would be... due to improved aerodynamics. the weight diff is very minor. and could be offset by removing some ballast... like seats or such...
anyway, I would not want a 240SD myself... |
When considering the manual swap into either the W123 or W126 car with an OM61X engine, the critical issue will be sourcing the driveshaft, trans crossmember, and the linkages.
I've done several trans swaps in the past, and most is a plug and play. The bodies are preconfigured for any combination, but the above mentioned stuff is unique to each combination, and can be unobtainium...... Jim |
Thanks for the replies everyone.
And no, I'm NOT planning on sticking a 240 engine into an SD. Just a manual transmission swap. :) |
My dad and I went and test drove a 240D manual with 158k on it today, they are SO SLOW. We've written them off for buying. No way. The car was in pretty good shape but had some issues....and the seller wanted too much...so we passed it up...and mostly because it was SO slow....19 seconds to 60....thats an eternity. :dizzy2:
We want another 300D/300SD, or 190D 2.5.....or maybe even an SDL or '87 300D.....no slow ones though. |

All I can say is.... Why?! :dizzy2:
Why have a car that is incredibly under powered? |
They are underpowered but aren't really that bad if you rev them out all the way. They sound kind of tractor like though.. and the low end torque of the 617 at 2000 rpm is too good to give up.
