Transmission bolts

I am dropping my tranny for a rebuild and have removed all of the tranny bolts except the easy one on each side and the arm chewing top one on the right side, hiding behind the oil filter canister and the head. I have about run out of ideas, short of pulling rhe oil filter canister and would appreciate imput from someone who has fought this battle and won.

ive done it

I dropped the trans with my 81 300SD. I jacked the car up and put it on 4 or five 6 inch blocks. I believe the bolt by the oil filter housing requires two wrenches because that bolt doesn't thread into the block like the rest of them do. I went at it from the bottom. I might be a speacial case because the engine was previously pulled and rebuilt, I am in my early twenties with small hands. Those bolts weren't as tight as they should have been. good luck!

when i did it on my 300SD ( a 116 though) i laid on the ground and reached up around the bell housing and hung on it till it broke free... then i went up top and finished it... this was all done with a stubby ratchet and a deep socket combo.

Dropping the crossmember gives the tranny room to drop at the tailshaft.

This makes it easier to get a line on the bolts, but you need to be careful not to damage the accelerator linkage. Since you will need to drop the shifter linkage, driveshaft and exhaust, this does not add too much to the job.

Remember to support the tailshaft, don't let it hang free.

Don't forget to drain the fluid out of the trans pan before disengaging the trans.

The drive shaft and everything else attached to the tranny has been removed. It is sitting on a transmission jack. The engine is also on a jack, the only thing left is the three bolts. The top bolt is the problem and is a true mount bolt, no nut on the back side to deal with.
