Fuel tank size question

How much capacity is the tank on a 1979 300D W123? I thought it was 18.5 gallons. If so, the pump at the station I went to today squeezed in 19.391 gallons and hadn't stopped yet. My guage still said 1/4 tank or better. My guage could be flaky but I still think the pump was wrong. Thanks, Paul

I would guess somewhere between 20-23, on the W123.

Don't know for sure, but I've never been able to get anywhere near 20 gallons into my tank. I'm inclined to go with the 18.5 figure.

I think this pump is mis calibrated whch is NOT good at $4.30 a gallon. I don't have a manual so I would like to know for sure. Paul

Vahe

Depends, some 300Ds got the small tank. I know my 83 has the smaller tank. I'm all done at 17 gallons.

I think they are rated as 70 or 90 liter capacities.

The 240D has a smaller tank than the 300D, unless they were switched out.

I must have a 21 gallon tank. Good for distance. Bad for wallet. Thanks for the responses. Paul

Small tank.... Sounds like your gage is dropping too much. Reserve light on?

if you have a 300D with only a 16 gallon capacity... you may have a clogged up tank screen or the fuel lines may have gotten reversed. your tank could have imploded too... pull the carpet out of the trunk and verify the tank is still flat.

Tinly little 13gallon tank for the 240D (15.1 with the reserve)

Its fine for me. It works out to almost exactly two weeks worth of driving.

As mentioned, check your tank, but maybe you have a faulty sending unit. The manual says you have an 80 liter (21.1 gallon) tank, that includes an 11.5 liter (3 gallon?) reserve.
