300D for FREE!

One of my mother's former employers (and a good friend of hers as well) had a 85' 300D in his carport that had been sitting for 5 years or so, because he had parked it thinking it had a major transmission problem. So it turns out that he was going to junk it, but I convinced him to give it to me instead.

I towed the car home, and put a new battery in it, and it started up on the first try (instantly) and, after driving it around the block a couple times, it was immediately apparent that the only thing wrong with it was that the shifter linkage bushings are bad...and that's the noise that he was hearing, which made him thing the tranny was gone. It sifts PERFECT, btw... has 117k miles.

Here are some pics of it next to my big gasser.

Did you ever score, nice looking car. these deals don`t come around very often.

It`s good the guy kept the registration paid up or non oped it. can`t emagine what the penality for ea year plus the back reg. fees. the Dmv does like to stick it to us.

I keep looking around for one in some one`s garage low milage. the old man died, grandma keeps the car for sentimental reasons. she dies, the kids clean out the house and just want to get rid of the old junker. and here Iam, the junk man to help them haul it away.

enjoy your new Love.

Charlie ☺

Yea...it really is a nice car...just needs to be cleaned up. Luckily he left the windows rolled up (it was parked outdoors) so the interior isn't deteriorated at all. The wood isn't even cracked. O_O I'll have to get some detailed pics up once I thoroughly clean everything.

And from what he told me, he parked it in 2003, but kept paying the registration and insurance until early 2007...so hopefully the back fees won't be too bad. I'll find out tomorrow.

....and WA - unless you want to go through the hassle of having the previous owner fill out an affidavit saying it wasn't driveable - and then take it to the State Patrol for an inspection to show it is now repaired and safe to drive again.

But WTH, for a free car in that kind of shape, paying $50-$100 a year for 5 years worth of back registration fees would be MORE than worth it to me.

NICE score BTW. Why can't I ever find a deal like that?
