Mercedes Tool Alternatives

I'm getting ready to do some work (pull injectors and rebuild, new fuel level sender, etc.) and there are, of course, a few special tools that seem to want to be used.

27mm Injector Socket -- I've found a 27mm 1/2" drive, deep 12pt socket from Craftsman. A few people on here have said this'll work. I'm hoping you're right.

46mm Fuel Level Socket -- I've found a 1 & 13/16", 12 point socket. In metric, that's 46.0375mm. I'm assuming that'll be okay--it shouldn't rotate too much, and it won't strip out or warp or anything. Yeah?

17mm Injector Lines Crowfoot -- This one has me stumped a little bit. It's used to remove the hard lines from the injectors and the IP, right? It's pretty elongated and fancy looking. I can easily get a 17mm crowfoot wrench without issue, but it's just flat. Would that work?

We can also use this thread to discuss other Mercedes tools that are very expensive, and what cheap alternatives have been found for them.

I'm probably going to buy the Injector Crowfoot from Fastlane here, given how specialized it looks, but the others are pretty generic.

... I have never used anything but normal 17mm open end wrench to remove the injector lines... and you have the 4cyl... you should have no issues...
the 27mm or 1-1/16 socket works fine... be sure you have no return hose on the nipples.
I have never worked on the fuel sender, but several here have, and I think pliers work fine for it.

I have a set of Crows foot flair nut wrenches. they work good. I also have the MB official elongated wrench for the hard fuel lines. they were so tight it was springing the wrench open. the thing doesn`t seem to have enough meat to it.

the set of flair nut crows foot, I bought at an auto supply for $17.00, made in Taiwan.

I used a regular 17mm open end type Craftmans crows foot for years (3/8 drive) on the injector hard line nuts and also a 17mm flare nut box type wrench wrench (also Crastman) which I find works better down on the IP end of the hard lines. With the injectors a regular 17mm combination works ok but you need to watch out you do not shear off the little fuel return lines.
About 6 months ago I aquired that special 17mm wrench along with bunch of other tools that were sold on Ebay to remove the hard line nuts so I have been using that lately. However as the other member said it is not a strong tool; my boss bought one where I used to work and it broke after a few months use on a very tight injector hard line. Since I do not over tighten my hard lines using the tool is no problem.

Get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W2F1AU/ref=pd_cp_hi_1?pf_rd_p=277661601&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0001LG1BA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0RVPRRGJVVKNF3MJX5R0

They are great for multiple things and you can put a 6mm hex key in it to help with the top bolts on the motor mounts.

I've done all that work and the only thing you really need is the socket for the injectors. which, if you pull the Valve cover, you dont really need.

I use a full size Vice Grips on the sender, vertically, then wedge in a larger screwdriver for leverage.
