Just curious...

Down grade will always return better MPG. Thats why MPG must be measured in BOTH directions and/or over several tanks.

Cleaned out my Intake Manifold last week while doing some other maintenance and Fuel Mileage has improved as well as performance... 32.2 mpg over 611 miles of mixed driving, highway, city and bumper to bumper commuter crawl... I'm hoping that summer traffic lightens up so that my mileage can improve even more...

Hey Guys , I'm new to the mercedes diesels ...I just picked up a little 300cdt and would expect to hopefully hit 30mpg ... I have 3 cummins turbo diesels that are in 25mpg and for a truck thats great , there the old mechcanical injection just like the mercedes .
All the trucks have 2 mods that made a huge MPG difference , a full flow aircleaner and the exhaust being straight piped .
I posted on straight piping on another thread , I am going to leave intake alone on my 300cdt and do a straight piped exhaust and I hope to see 30 mpg out of my little 300cdt .

Don't expect to average 30mpg. If you get 27mpg its still very good.

I suspect a flaw in your calculating or measuring. Getting the same in city and highway driving does not compute.

Sorry.

I hope to hit 30 with the 300cdt ...Hey Bio300 , I am assuming your a 24valve cummins ...you need the 12 valve truck , sounds like you still have problems ...16 mpg is terrible even for a 24 valve , you should be 18 to 22 , check your valve adjustment and timing , then do a exhaust and air intake might help .
My trucks are 2 wheel drive , one's a dually and 2 single wheel trucks ...all are 12 valve .

100% sure the calculations are right. I measured the highway MPG at speeds of 75-80mph, maybe thats why it got the same mileage as the city.

Check my sig. I wouldn't own a second generation 24 valve. Maybe a 3rd, but not a second. Mine is a 4x4 and it has some mods. I have done all you listed and more. I think I have it sold.

I think I screwed up with my calculations or just plain forgot I might have put in more than 10 gallons..

Current outlook on this 10 gallon fill up is not high. I've altered my driving habits and such and am looking at 21 mpg's once the light turns on.

I want a more fuel efficient cah.... or a biodiesel reactor... or cake...

If I'm on it I'm proibly 21 ...I'm not the only guy in the mid 20's with the cummins , I would say I did pickup a dramatic increase with the air intake mods .
I am just finshing up at my shop , I am going to pull in the 300cdt ...my superior shift spring kit just came in ...I am going to drop the pan and put in the K1 and K2 springs ...I'm fighting this flare problem from 2nd to 3rd.
I'm pushing for that 30 MPG ...especially with allmost 5 dollar a gallon fuel in the northeast .

I might as well throw my 2-cents into this thread. My '95 E300D has delivered over 35 mpg in three of the last four tanks. The last tank was 33.2 mpg. Let's just say as a new member to the Mercedes fold, I am extremely happy. I didn't expect my fuel mileage to be so high. I was expecting 5-7 mpg less.

Any idea why my fuel economy is so high, the W124 chassis? Or, the 606 engine?

On the Dodge Ram front, my '98 24v 4x4 5-spd. truck delivered 19.5 mpg in the winter with 21.5 mpg in the summer. I have no cause for complaint with my 24-valve engine. It has been bullet-proof.
