I looked at that one when the link came up in the thread about the one for the 300TD wagon.

I'm giving it some real serious thought myself. I have one of those little 4'x8' tilt-bed trailers, and it is only rated for 1400 lbs IIRC. So one of these would be just perfect for towing it with up to 3 barrels of WVO or bioD on it - maybe 4 barrels if I wanted to push it a little...

everyone else wants 2-3x that in $$. and the others are fixed drawbar types. this is a receiver, looks to bolt to the uni-frame. havent found a PDF of the install yet.

what about using the TD hitch on a sedan?? I have both cars here now, mybee I'll take a tape to them......

EVERYONE-Mercedes and Curt included--provides a different hitch for the wagon vs the sedan.

Why would you think a wagon hitch would work on a sedan?

why not??

the wagon hitch is more $$, so I figure maybe they offer the sedan units at a better price. simpler design. but why not use a wagon hitch?( if it fits) the curt one is pretty stout compared to the sedan styles I have seen.

I tried to get one

I ordered that hitch for my W123 sedan 18 months ago from Curt Mfg and they sent me the regular Class 1 hitch. They told me the ad was a mistake and the light duty bolt to the bottom of the trunk is the only hitch they have for a W123. They did send me a good trailer wiring device with their apology.

well- just so everyone Knows- the wagon hitch fits on a sedan just fine- except for the exhaust. you will need to adjust the tailpipe from the muffler out so the hitch can fit in there. it is a way better design hitch than the cheapie from JCW, etc, and will haul more. I will try to update w/ pics.....

EDIT_ the original receiver type hitch in post #1 is indeed misrepresented. it is NOT a receiver type, but the unit which bolts onto the bumper and the spare tire well. My friend did not want that, so he got the WAGON hitch and installed it on his 240. cost 2x more, though.

also- I did have to re-do the exhaust on my TD as well. it rubbed on the hitch and created an awful resonant droning at idle.

I have one of the rare Da'Lan Hitches that is a trunk floor to bumper mount receiver....it works great. I've pulled as much as 800lbs with it with no issue, and it works great for my bike carrier too! Our other cars have different ones. My dad's has a factory style one, and the other SD has one thats completely bolted to the bumper, but is brand new and would likely work fine....

Good info. Where did you get it and what did it cost you? Would replacing the muffler with a 4"-5" diameter glasspack that is 6" or so shorter provide the neccessary clearance?

JCWhitney has the wagon hitch for $190ish.

I used a 3" cherrybomb glaspack ($25) and replaced my 24 year old mercedes muffler which had a few holes in it. I still had to make my own miters to get down and out the side. and keep in mind the wagon exits the side stock, too.
