Driver Doors Courtesy Light Problem

I have mercedes 87 300 SDL My driver courtesy Light broke And I think it cause a short when It broke because I saw the spark!! NOW I replace the Fuse but not the light , I leave the two cables with out the light. I do not have the Sound when you open the Door And the Other light on the Other doors does not turn On. Could it be possible that I need to replace teh light to restore the hole circuit or do I could damage something else. Thanks for yours responses.

Sounds like the door switch. Pop the door button in and out a few times and see what happens. That would account for the door buzzer not working.

With the lamp removed, you have an open circuit. Replace the bulb and reinstall assembly. That should fix it.

I actually have the same problem on my 91 350SDL. When I got it the puddle light was broken, I assume it had shorted out sometime in the past. I replaced it, put in a bulb, but nothing happens when the driver's door is opened. The dome light does not come on, no chime, etc. But opening the passenger door does illuminate the dome light, and the puddle lights on both doors. I checked the door switch with a meter and it seems to be working, I also touched the wires at the switch together and still got nothing. Any idea on what I should check next?

PS: If you are looking for replacement lamp units for a W126, the 85-92 VW Jetta and Golf use the same thing for the luggage area light.

I agree. It is the seat belt warning buzzer relay. It sits up under the drivers side of the dash attached to the cruise control computer. My rear left door puddle light broke and shorted my relay out. Even after replacing the fuse in the fuse box, still no go. I took out the relay, opened it up and found the burnt trace on the circuit board. I then took a small piece of wire and jumpered the area between the burnt trace and soldered the wire in. I have watched my MRI Service engineer do this on circuit boards in my scanner to get me up and running until a new board would arrive. It has worked like a charm for three years now. I have a good replacement relay from a junkyard but it is a total pain to remove this. I am just waiting for my fix to unfix itself and then I will replace it with another.
