Looks like it came out of a time capsule. hard to believe over 300000 mi and the paint is that good.

I agree, get a metric engine, give Mike a call, great guy to work with. 4yr 50000 mi warranty. Includes glow plugs, Injectors, and Injection Pump. 800-622-6867.

Was the wheel block included in the purchase price.

Charlie ☺

It looks almost perfect, clear corners will finish it. Good Bosch euro ones.

Do pre-chambers come apart in the 617s? Once per second is much less than once per revolution, idled on all cylinders? Put it in gear and see if it still idles smoothly and it might also stop knocking.

He said it was puking oil, so it doesn't sound like it was low oil, and I'd expect that it will lubricate with what remained.

The guy slips with us, a "blow-boater", really loved that car.

maybe it is in need of a valve adjustment really bad. that right there would cause low compression symptoms. it could also be causing the knock.

I figure put a load on it, if it needs an engine anyway, put it in gear and give it some pedal, see how it sounds, If a rod comes loose at that RPM it's not going far and you'll have your answer. Turbo/IP and hopefully head would still be fine.

Thats what I am thinking too....we're going to leave it alone till next week when we have more time to work on it. (I'm gone this weekend).....I'll do the loosening of injection lines to see if one makes the clack go away....and we'll try putting load on it too....just sitting there idling it seemed fine though.

Great find! That is my all time favorite w126 color combinations. Been looking for one just like that for that kind of price! Wanna sell it?

Does it sound like this? Sound

I don't know what that sound was, but it went away. Somebody suggested it was nailing, but it sounded way different and more rhythmic than other nailing I have heard.

Nice buy!

I wouldn't toss a used motor into it if you plan to keep it.

This reminds me of JimmyL's Squash... had "knock" turned out the A/C compressor was loose LOL

Nope, it sounds like the engine running smoothly and normally, except add the sound of clanking the end of a 3/8" sized ratchet handle on the P/S pump, thats the exact sound.

As for the loose A/C compressor idea, it could be that too! I had my compressor bolts come loose on mine before and it made a terrible rattling and clanking that was actually somewhat similar....I will try to get it up on the ramps sometime in the next few days and do a thorough inspection of all bolts and accessories etc....I'll get to the bottom of this...it starts and runs fine with normal exhaust and idle....its got to be some weird issue. We'll see. If the engine turns out to be fine that would be incredible!!

My 300SEL was bought like that... "no start"

A/C compressor was seized. I cut the belt off, threw in a new battery, shot of starting fluid down the intake and... started right up. Then drove it on the trailer. PO's were shocked.

Obviously had to replace the comp to drive it (single belt), but the car's been trouble free since.

Hell, is the PS pump just low?
